Three Sundays, three years, three times on top of the world. A trio of FIA World Championships have helped define and shape Petter Solberg’s career so far.

But actually, there’s so much more to the Norwegian superstar. And we’re not talking Hollywood, radio- controlled cars or disco dancing here.

Motorsport is Petter’s life. Raised by racing parents, Petter married Pernilla Walfridsson, daughter of former Volvo factory rally driver Per- Inge Walfridsson. Pernilla is a successful rally driver in her own right, so, it’s no surprise that Solberg Jr – Oliver – is already well on his way to a career in motorsport.

He might have just passed his 15th birthday, but the third generation racer – already a multiple crosskart champion – is embarking on his rookie rally year in Latvia.

As you can see, Petter’s world totally turns around internal combustion.

Signing for the Ford World Rally Team at the end of 1998, Petter was in dreamland as team-

mate to his hero Colin McRae. The Scot starred for a young Solberg and not only in terms of career progression, he was also a big hit and an unforgettable presence on Petter and Pernilla’s wedding day!

Petter moved to Subaru in 2000, where he won the first of three world titles in 2003.

Solberg and Subaru became synonymous and the Norwegian remained with the Japanese manufacturer until its withdrawal from the WRC in 2008. For the next three years, Petter ran and drove for

his own WRC before returning to Ford for a single season in 2012.

By 2013, rallycross was calling again and the PSRX team was born. After a year of getting back up to speed with racing side-by-side again, it was a case of déjà vu for Petter and rallycross. Just as he’d taken back-to-back rallycross titles at the start of his career in 1995 and 1996, he did the same thing in 2014 and 2015. But this time it wasn’t the Norwegian title, this time Petter had taken on the world and won.
